City stakeholders and government officials in Lao Cai, Vietnam, held their final workshop and Shared Learning Dialogue under support from the USAID-supported Mekong-Building Climate Resilience in Asian Cities project to discuss and finalize the city’s Climate Resilience Action Plan for submission to the Provincial People’s Committee.

Dang Xuan Thanh, Vice-Chair of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the May 27 event facilitated by the Institute for Social and Environmental Transition in collaboration with the Vietnam National Institute for Science and Technology Policy and Strategy Studies.  The Action Plan outlines what activities and issues the city will focus on to continue building resilience after the project finishes. Representatives from government agencies, civil society and the private sector discussed and provided feedback on the core elements of the Plan as well as on the results of projects conducted in the city.

In addition, stakeholders discussed ways to link solutions and actions identified in the Action Plan with current and future government plans.  The Plan will be submitted to the Provincial People’s Committee for final approval in the coming months. Once it is approved, it will inform both short-term (to 2015), as well as long-term (2016-2020) planning processes.
