With USAID support, the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) recently published, “A review of payments for environmental services experiences in Cambodia.” The paper examines the legal and policy status of payments for environmental services (PES), including how they have been promoted by nongovernmental organizations and international donors and applied by the government in Cambodia.

In addition, the paper examines both the wide range of different PES schemes currently operating in Cambodia as well as the context in which they are being implemented. Overall, the paper promotes discussions both about the technical and practical challenges of PES and how government sector uses PES mechanisms.
