Mekong - U.S. Partnership
This month, the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Grassroots Equity and Enhanced Networks in the Mekong Program (USAID GREEN Mekong) released a second round of awards under its Challenge Fund to civil society organizations from the Lower Mekong region. The grants provide winners with the opportunity to advance the promotion of equitable and inclusive forest governance through local engagement.
This year, six civil society organizations won $10,000 each to support activities including broadcasting live talk shows on forest co-management and community-based REDD+ in Cambodia; training local forestry officials to improve engagement with communities in Lao PDR; producing a short video on the role of indigenous women in forest management in Vietnam; and organizing dialogues among concerned stakeholders for a sustainable and equitable watershed management in Myanmar.
The Challenge Fund also enables these organizations to put into practice the new knowledge, skills and tools on equity and local engagement they have acquired during a series of training by USAID GREEN Mekong.
