In Udon Thani, one of the fastest urbanizing cities in Thailand, multi-agency working group City Team conducted a hands-on exercise with the provincial governor’s office to apply a Shared Vision Planning tool to the city’s 2016 fiscal urban and economic development planning process.

USAID’s Mekong-Building Climate Resilient Asian Cities project with technical support from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers developed the Shared Vision Planning tool through a participatory process with local stakeholders.

The tool is meant to address issues arising as a result of climate change, including water stress, flood risk and unpredictable weather patterns, and incorporate those issues into the city’s urban planning process.

The exercise helped the Udon Thani City Team gain support from the provincial governor’s office to pilot the tool and engage with local community groups to promote dialogue on the city’s development strategies.
