Mekong - U.S. Partnership
The USAID Lowering Emissions in Asia’s Forests (USAID LEAF) program advanced development of its Climate Change Curriculum in Vietnam with open seminars at universities in Hanoi on June 19 and 20 and Da Lat on June 25 and 26.
The seminars reached over 120 educators at Hanoi’s Vietnam Forestry University and Da Lat University with information on how to integrate climate change into university curricula. All four modules of the USAID LEAF Regional Climate Change Curriculum Development – basic climate change, social and environmental soundness, low emission land use planning, and carbon measurement and monitoring – were presented, along with approaches to engagement, commitment, ownership and sustainability.
The seminars will be followed by advanced trainings and mentorship in advance of evaluation and refinement of the full Curriculum. USAID LEAF is collaborating with the United States Forest Service and the USAID Vietnam Forests and Deltas Program on the seminars, as part of USAID LEAF’s joint effort with regional universities under the U.S. Government’s Lower Mekong Initiative to build capacity for a future cadre of climate change professionals.
