Mekong - U.S. Partnership
From October 24 – November 1, members of the new “King of Tigers” elite ranger team assisted with the instruction of a PROTECT Tactics course in Thailand’s Eastern Forest Complex, a regional hot spot for wildlife crime.
The USAID-funded ARREST program (Asia’s Regional Response to Endangered Species Trafficking), coordinated the course with Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP). The course provided not only vital training for the 30 attending rangers, but also an opportunity for select King of Tigers members to train their frontline ranger counterparts in the Eastern Forest Complex. Involvement of the DNP’s the King of Tigers is a critical step in institutionalizing this enforcement training at a national level. Support for the course came from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, The David Shepherd Foundation and ARREST.
