With support from the USAID-funded Lowering Emissions in Asia’s Forests (LEAF) project, the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) organized a technical meeting to discuss the REDD+ Fund proposal and the development of a national REDD+ accounting framework for Vietnam. Fifty participants representing government departments, international donors, and provinces that are implementing REDD+ gathered in Hanoi on October 3 to exchange views and share information on the structure and functioning of the REDD+ Fund and the national REDD+ accounting framework, including areas related to governance, management and safeguards.
Participants drew from the LEAF project’s Decision Support Tool on Integrated REDD+ Accounting Frameworks and the LEAF review of International Experience with REDD+ and National Forest Funds to guide discussions on ways to monitor and account for forest emissions at the national level and create the appropriate mechanisms for channeling international funding towards addressing drivers of deforestation and forest degradation.
