Mekong - U.S. Partnership
With support from the USAID-funded LEAF program, the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) organized a national consultation workshop in Hanoi on August 27 to discuss the establishment of a National REDD+ Fund. Over 70 participants representing government departments, international donors and provinces implementing REDD+ discussed the design of a proposed National Fund, including aspects related to governance, management and safeguards. By creating a National REDD+ Fund, countries like Vietnam can use financial incentives from developed countries and other sources for activities that effectively and equitably reduce carbon dioxide emissions from forestry, agriculture, and land-use sectors. Support for this event is part of LEAF’s broader capacity building and policy efforts in Vietnam and across the Lower Mekong region. Similar efforts are underway in Cambodia and Lao PDR.
