NASA has supported a new pilot research on the Mekong river system and its riparian environments to address Mekong monitoring in view of climate change and especially human modifications (e.g., current and future dams and canal construction). The Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management, Fulbright University Vietnam will host an in-person workshop to review the current state-of-the-art knowledge from current Mekong research and applications work; identify gaps in science knowledge, application needs, missing data products, and connectivity between scientists and community of practice; determine priorities in research topics, observation locations, and data records in time and space, for the urgent/immediate, near-term, mid-term, and long-term tasks; and develop international collaborative joint research to be proposed to relevant funding authorities in various countries, leveraging on current funded projects and on the international Science Team with a consortium of scientists and community of practice. Meeting convenors also include a joint collaboration between the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, California, US, see https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/) and the University of Colorado at Boulder (Dartmouth Flood Observatory, INSTAAR (https://floodobservatory.colorado.edu/).
