The Mekong One Health Innovation Program (MOHIP) will host its 15th webinar on Monday, August 5 at 9:00pm EST. Dr. Mohamed Sallam is a diseases and arthropod-vector ecologist and a former U.S. Navy entomologist. He builds distribution models and risk maps using data science and field-collected data to demonstrate the geographic mosaic of environmental and public health hazards, especially emerging disease pathogens and their arthropod vectors, to support force health protection in deployed environments and U.S. military bases. He uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) techniques to study the impact of landscape-climate changes on health system levels. With his collaborators, he developed user-friendly platforms for disease-risk mapping and arthropod identification using machine learning and artificial intelligence. The talk will include the concept of the One Health Approach from the standpoint of remote sensing/geographical information systems, machine learning, and ecological modeling. He will discuss how the continuous climate and environmental changes impact Public Health and Economics.
