Mekong - U.S. Partnership
The Human Right Resource Center, with the support of USAID/RDMA, hosted a conference entitled “The Rule of Law in ASEAN: Prospects and Challenges for the Business Community in Cambodia for 2015 and Beyond”.
Government and NGO officials, as well as representatives of business associations attended the event. H.E. Dato Param Cumaraswamy, Advocate and Former Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, gave the Keynote Address. Held at the Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh, the event had around 50 guests, with participants actively engaged in the discussions.
The need for a strong dispute resolution mechanism, as well as clear and uniform standards, not only in Cambodia but across ASEAN, was highlighted. A similar conference was also held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
