The ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services (AFAS) aims to ensure each ASEAN Member State (AMS) removes restrictions affecting trade in services (including related foreign direct investment) and implement related reforms. Efficient services in each ASEAN Member State are essential to promote economic growth. Trade in services liberalization and associated reforms are instrumental for successful formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015.
Without this, the AEC’s success will be severely limited. USAID has supported a workshop on Trade in Services Scheduling on November 29, 2013 in Luang Prabang, Laos. The workshop was held back-to-back with the meeting of ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Services. Seventy trade in services negotiators from ASEAN Member States attended the seminar.
