We are excited to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the Japan-U.S.-Mekong Power Partnership (JUMPP) with the JUMPP Anniversary Publication!  Since 2019, the Department of State Bureau of Energy Resources Power Sector Program, along with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has helped push the energy transition in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.  Through over 60 technical reports and analysis and 100 workshops and trainings, ENR has built the capacity of 12 different power sector institutions in the region – home to the world’s fastest growing energy demand.

JUMPP has produced tangible results, collaborating with Mekong countries toward their clean energy goals while creating economic development opportunities.  We have supported the development of 13 different legal codes and frameworks for clean energy investment and power market governance.  Thailand has refined and passed its utility green tariff and third-party access framework – allowing greater private sector investment and procurement of clean energy.  Vietnam established a renewable energy control center for its growing clean energy supply.  Cambodia and Thailand are updating PPAs to focus on clean energy and cross-border power trade, creating more opportunities to export and import renewable energy.  Cambodia also released a request for proposals for its first-ever battery storage procurement intended for late-2024.

The work under JUMPP continues to make meaningful progress towards greater electricity access, reliability, and regional energy security and supports our engagement in the sub-region under the Mekong-U.S. Partnership.  Read more about JUMPP activities and real impacts in the publication!
